Teeth Whitening Treatments

Most people’s diet involved the daily consumption of foods and drinks that stain their teeth. Some of the foods and drinks are coffee, sodas, wine, tea and even fruits such as strawberry and blackberries. Acids in foods and beverages break down your teeth's enamel, making it easier for the enamel to be stained. Therefore, no matter how much you take care of your teeth, you can still have discolored teeth. With the use of social media, appearance has become more important than ever because it can be the starting point for building new relationships, and it can reveal a lot about an individual's hygiene. Whiten teeth plays a vital role in people’s image, so that might be a reason why teeth whitening treatments have become so popular.  Teeth whitening is getting more accessible now as these treatments can be performed in a dental office as they can be implemented in your own home. This article will provide information about different types of methods that are available to whiten your teeth, as well as, if these treatments have shown to have effective and endurance results.

Laser Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening has become one of the first requests that dental patients have when visiting their dentist.

Laser teeth whitening is administered in a dental office exclusively and is the most expensive method for whitening. Bleach is applied to each tooth, and heat generated by a laser enhances its effectiveness while ultimately speeding up the process. This procedure uses a strong bleaching gel that the laser activates and enhances for quick, dramatic results. The bleach used is a hydrogen peroxide gel that ranges from 25 to 40 percent in concentration levels. With these high concentrations, special precautions are taken to reduce tooth sensitivity, as well as protect the lips, gums and other oral tissues from being damaged.

Laser teeth whitenng takes about an hour in the dental office. Oftentimes, several treatments are needed to achieve the desired results and bleaching trays for home use may be needed as well to improve or maintain those results.

Laser teeth whitening isn't for everyone and is just one option to whiten your teeth. To find out more about teeth whitening, schedule a consultation at Stone Creek Family Dental by calling us at 513-741-7281.

Opalescence Boost

Opalescence Boost is a chemically activated power whitening gel that provides brighter, whiter teeth after just 40 minutes in the dental chair. The powerful 40% hydrogen peroxide gel is chemically activated, so it doesn’t require a hot, uncomfortable light to work.

Opalescence Boost consists of two syringes: The first contains 38 percent hydrogen peroxide, the active tooth whitening ingredient. The second syringe contains fluoride and potassium nitrate (PF), which helps strengthen tooth enamel, reduce sensitivity and protect against cavities. When mixed, the gel produces a distinct red color to help ensure correct placement and full removal of the product.

Safe and effective, Opalescence Boost usually takes only one dental visit to complete. While one visit is all you need to achieve a brighter smile, difficult stains or extreme discoloration may require additional treatments.

At Stone Creek Family Dental, Opalescence Boost is just one of many teeth whitening options. Call us at 513-741-7281 to schedule a consultation.

Take home trays

ake-home whitening trays are a type of teeth whitening procedure that you can perform at the comfort of your home. This is an easy and cost-effective teeth whitening treatment that can be easily obtained. You must follow the instructions given by our dentist to see the results at home. Although they can be a convenient option, obtaining great results can take longer than other treatments and they don’t always work well for deep stains. These trays are custom made to go over your teeth, and whiten your teeth through a special gel that is found on the inside of the trays.

These trays, once made for you, can then be taken home as a teeth whitening kit, along with the guidelines given by our dentist. The time period that they must remain on your teeth can vary according to your teeth whitening needs.

How Take-home Whitening Trays Work

Custom whitening trays are trays that are clear and are usually made of a clear plastic that comfortably adjust when inserted. A small dollop of gel is inserted in each tray, giving them their whitening properties. The gel consists of a hydrogen peroxide solution that actively whitens the enamel of the teeth.

  • After they have been used and are taken off, they need to be cleaned with a Q-tip or a cloth and rinsed. This makes them ready to be used again. It is not recommended to use them for at least another day, after each application.

  • These whitening trays can be used several times to achieve the desired results. Our dentist can further advice on how many times they should be used in your case.
